New American Gladiators show wastes time
The new version of the show is SO BORING! Most of the events are still pretty enjoyable, but they only total about 14 minutes of the hour-long beating that is the show.
Why do we need to interview the contenders before and after every event?!?
Why is Laila Ali even ON the show?!?
When is the Hulkster gonna tear off his shirt?!?
A lot of the problems come from the fact that the show was recorded all at once in a “tournament-style.” They recorded the whole thing in less than two weeks (probably more like one week), and I don’t think anyone bothered to watch what they were recording until it was over. Otherwise they might have realized that although Hulk is a consummate professional as an athlete and performer, Ali is an athlete - a nowhere close to being a performer. Every time she speaks, I feel awkward and uncomfortable….
But not the same way I feel awkward and uncomfortable every time they show Crush

This MMA-fighter-turned-Gladiator is so hot!
Instead of focusing on each contender’s sob story of why they want to win $100,000, why don’t we focus on the athletic events? The fact is that all of the contenders are there for money and glory. I don’t give a rat’s ass that she’s a single mother of two or that he’s retired military - I care if they can beat the Gladiators head-to-head!
The events are still pretty cool. Gauntlet, Hang Tough, Pyramid, Wall, Power Ball, and Joust are pretty much what they should be.
The Eliminator is even tougher than before. The only problem with it is that there is no time penalty when someone falls from the rolling log of the hand bike. Smart contenders would “fall” the moment they touch them because they can bypass them with no ill effects.

Earthquake (wrestling on a suspended platform) is an okay idea, but it just doesn’t work. The Gladiators use the ropes suspending the platforms as life-lines, and that just doesn’t really seem to be in the spirit of the competition.
Hit And Run is completely gay. There’s no actual contender-vs-Gladiator action.
Assault. Glorious, wonderful Assault. Why would you change perfection? The slingshot at the first station and the smoke-screen are acceptable changes, but other than that, they ruined the best game from the original show. Why is there a turret with a gun that has to be rotated, loaded, cocked, aimed, and fired? To slow it down to boring speed? And a sand pit with a foam arrow hidden in it? LAME! People WANT to see the Gladiator get launched into the water - so increase the chances of that happening!!
So let me put this as simply as I can. Record the show so that you can fast-forward through all the talking and incessant commercial breaks. You get to see all the best parts and it takes 15 minutes instead of an hour.
Suck it NBC
