ApeForce Advice: I need a new book series

I come to the collective wisdom and experience of ApeForce to get advice on which series of books I should read/listen to next.  I would like a series of at least 3 books, preferably more. I'm considering Tad Williams or Terry Goodkind, but would appreciate any feedback and opinions you guys have.  Every list of top […]

Jared Diamond’s Collapse

Because of our recent discussion about A Brave New World, I decided to start listening to Jared Diamond’s Collapse yesterday.  As expected, he has already blown my mind several times.  For those who don’t know, the book is an examination of the causes of societal collapse.  Interestingly, he starts with a look at Montana. He […]

Brave New World

I just got through reading it, thanks to http://huxley.net/bnw/index.html
Now I'm working on Brave New World Revisited http://huxley.net/bnw-revisited/index.html.  Should make for an interesting take on what he wrote 26 years before.
I thought the book quite strange - but I guess that stuff would pass for the future in 1932.  Stuff like money, it would seem, […]

Kurt Vonnegut Dead

Cinematical’s write-up
I’ve only read 5 or 6 of his books, but I really enjoyed them.  I’m hoping that the Baron can pop on here and tell us some more about him since he got the chance to actually meet and consult with the man.

Librivox.org

A kind of public domain audiobook library.  With homemade audiobooks.  http://www.librivox.org/
"Librivox volunteers record chapters of books in the public domain and publish the audio files on the Internet.
Our goal is to record all the books in the public domain."

They've got Dante's Divine Comedy.  I haven't listed to it yet, but my first try - the […]

Song of Ice and Fire

I'm about a quarter of the way through George RR Martin's first book in the Song of Ice and Fire series.  I don't know if anyone else has read this series, but so far it's really, really good.  The books are known for downplaying magic (unusual for a Fantasy novel), complicated characters, no simple dichotomy of […]

Angels and Demons

I’m Reading Dan Brown’s Angels and Demons right now. I’m only about 80 pages in and it’s already better than The DaVinci Code in my opinion. Anyone else read this? Is it just me, or does it seem to share almost all of The DaVinci Code’s major elements? Its almost like he attempted to improve […]

Google Books - Bushido, the Soul of Japan: An Exposition of Japanese Thought

http://books.google.com/books?vid=OCLC30431701
Got bored and started reading this at work today (actually just couldn't focus).  It's a good book - good insight into bushido and Japanese culture as it was back then.
Written before the first World War by a Japanese professor.  Very interesting viewpoint.

Lamb

If anyone is looking for a good book to read, I’m just finishing up a book called Lamb, The Gospel According to Biff Christ’s Childhood Pal by Chistopher Moore. It’s about Jesus’s formative years (or Joshua as he’s called in the book), as told by Biff. Joshua and Biff become friends as children and then […]

The Apocalyptic Poetry Series

Bukowski : Dinosauria, We
Born like this Into this As the chalk faces smile As Mrs. Death laughs As the elevators break As political landscapes dissolve As the supermarket bag boy holds a college degree As the oily fish spit out their oily prey As the sun is masked We are Born like this Into this […]
